Editing Matters

At the heart of communication is human connection. As a writer, you have ideas, expertise, and a unique vision to share. You seek to grow your readership and make an impact. My goal is to help you achieve yours.

My editorial trajectory began at McGill-Queen's University Press in Montreal. Relocating to Toronto, I built my career at different imprints of what would become Penguin Random House Canada. As an editor, I’ve worked with—among others—novelists and translators, journalists and cooks, a criminal profiler, and a prime minister. Along the way, books I’ve edited have won or been nominated for many prestigious awards for both fiction and non-fiction.

Of course, not every writer's destiny is to be standing on a podium in a room packed with glitterati, attractive as that sounds! No matter the genre or medium a writer is exploring, one of the primary tasks is to determine who your audience is, and what you want to offer them through your work. Maybe it’s information or maybe it’s inspiration; it could be life-altering or life-enhancing, humorous or profound. Whatever you have to say, every writer needs a guide whose fresh eyes and passion for communication will help you see what’s working and what potential has yet to be unlocked.

Enter your editor: an expert in taking on the role of your ideal reader. I will be a collaborative and supportive coach as we work to polish your language, hone your ideas, and make your writing clear, engaging, and effective.

Let's get there together, word by word.

Testimonials

Sustained focus and care

"When we worked together at Random House Canada, Pamela’s extraordinary attention to detail and immaculate taste led to many of her books winning awards and reaching sales figures that were the envy of her colleagues. Whether it's books or anything else requiring precision, sustained focus, and care, you would be well advised to consider Pamela for the task." — Craig Pyette, agent, editor, writer, and ghostwriter

Deft and conscientious

"Pamela is a smart, funny, dedicated editor who always thinks of writers' best interests. Deft, conscientious, and deadline-conscious, she is adept at seeing both the big picture and the detail, able to finesse big projects to the finish line. " — Anne Collins, executive editor and former publisher

Mother-lynx eye

“Pamela cared for my books as if they were her children. With the patience of a monk, she helped them travel from one culture to another, through language, images, and sounds. She savoured each word, touched every space. When I read my books in English, I hear the voice of their formidable translator, Sheila Fischman. And, at the same time, I feel all of Pamela’s attention and affection. Thank you for your mother-lynx eye.”—Kim Thúy, author

A joy to work with

"Pamela edited some of my most successful books at Penguin Random House Canada. She was diligent, tireless, and always passionate about our work. She loved telling stories and was not shy about pushing authors to think more boldly about their work and their voice. She was an inspiration and a joy to work with. It's a tough world out there and the world needs more Pamelas." — Julian Sher, journalist and author
